Caldecott Award Winning Illustrated Children's Books: Finding More Books

This guide lists Caldecott award winning books

The Gund library has many more illustrated children's books beyond the Caldecott award winners, including classic children's books and books written and illustrated by CIA graduates including Marc Brown, David Kirk, and Suzanne McGinness.

Finding more illustrated children's books in the Gund Library

The library is constantly adding new books!

You may find browsing the call number area PZ 7- PZ 27 the most enjoyable way to see a selection of the library's picture books.

You may also want to browse the pop-up book collection, located on shelf #60; this collection also contains illustrated children's books - -  in 3-D form!

However, since what you will see by browsing is only what books are not currently checked out, you may also want to use the online catalog:

  • to look for a specific book by doing a TITLE search
  • to find books by a specific illustrator or writer by doing an AUTHOR search,
  • or to see a more extensive list by searching the phrase "illustrated children's books" as a SUBJECT

Don't forget the OhioLINK catalog if you can't find what you are looking in the library's online catalog.

Want to know more about the history of picture books?

To best way to find books on the history of illustrated children's books is to search the phrase ILLUSTRATED CHILDREN'S BOOKS - - HISTORY as a SUBJECT in the online catalog.

You can refine your search in a variety of ways, including by country and time period, using (for example) such phrases as:

ILLUSTRATED CHILDREN'S BOOKS -- RUSSIA

ILLUSTRATED CHILDREN'S BOOKS --  THEMES, MOTIVES

Remember, you are searching an online catalog that includes CWRU and CIM items, so if you wish to know only what is in the Gund Library, you will need to modify the search to limit your results to the CIA library. As a CIA patron, you may also borrow books from the CWRU and CIM libraries.

Still want more? Don't forget the OhioLINK catalog if you can't find what you are looking in the library's online catalog.
