In 2023, 4,240 unique titles were targeted for removal in US libraries and schools, according to the American Library Association’s Office of Intellectual Freedom. This is a 65% increase in the number of titles that were targeted in 2022 (2,571). 47% of those titles represented the voices and lived experiences of BIPOC and LGBTQ+ people and Ohio was one of 17 states where attempts to censor more than 100 titles occurred.
